Reddit will turn off its RSS feeds on Nov. 13. A post on r/LocalLLaMA spotted the change today and spelled out what breaks.
RSS feeds let a program check a page for new posts on its own. Many home AI tools use that trick to read Reddit on their own.
The poster runs a local AI agent at home. The agent reads RSS feeds and writes short summaries of relevant posts. "My agent also is unable to fetch any reddit post with relevant information," the poster wrote.
Reddit announced the shutdown last month. Today marks 31 days since that announcement. New public API sign-ups stopped today too, 13 days ahead of the RSS cutoff itself.
The company's full public API closes by March 2027 on the same timeline. Reddit blamed the move on large-scale scraping and automated abuse. AI tools are the clearest target of that language.
The post pulled 51 comments inside the public comment feed in hours. Several readers in the thread said they already build tools around Reddit's open feeds. A few called the timing rough for small, one-person projects.
Readers debated the fix. Some pointed to Reddit's own suggested tool, a Discord relay built for moderators. Others said that tool solves a different job than a feed reader ever did.
Reddit framed the change as a defense against bots that scrape at scale. The same open feeds that fed spam also fed small, useful AI projects built by regular people.
Most big platforms closed their open feeds years ago. X and Facebook both locked down free API access well before Reddit's own move.
The site stays one of the last big names with truly open feeds today. That status starts closing inside two weeks. Builders now have a short window to find another way in.
Some replies named paid tools that already exist. A few coders said they would just stop building Reddit tools for good. The thread doubles as an early goodbye to the open web that AI fans grew up using.
