Where AI Lately looks: the public sources behind the Signal
The public documents, filings and feeds AI Lately reads to record AI hires, exits and releases, each with a link, so any reader can repeat the check.
Every entry on the Signal rests on a document a reader can open. This page lists the public sources AI Lately reads first, what each one shows and where to find it. Other outlets count as tips: when one breaks a story, AI Lately goes to the document it cited.
Filings and government records
SEC EDGAR, Form 8-K Item 5.02. A public company reports the appointment or departure of a principal officer or director within four business days. Search it at sec.gov/edgar/search.
Department of Labor LCA and PERM disclosure files. Employers filing for visa-based hires disclose exact job titles, wages and work locations. The files sit under the Office of Foreign Labor Certification's performance data.
State WARN notices. Large employers file notice before a mass layoff, which shows contraction before an announcement. The Department of Labor's WARN page links each state's list.
Company and research sources
Newsrooms and lab blogs. What a company chose to announce, in its own words.
arXiv. Papers carry author affiliations, and a changed affiliation often shows a move months before an announcement. Browse at arxiv.org.
Hugging Face Daily Papers. A daily list of the papers the research community is reading, at huggingface.co/papers.
GitHub. Maintainer lists and release notes on flagship open-source repositories.
Public job boards. Greenhouse, Lever and Ashby postings show intent before execution.
How AI Lately uses them
The desks keep their own list of upstream sources, called the firehose, and check it at the start of every AI Right Now run. Every Signal entry then carries one of three labels. Confirmed rests on a company announcement, a filing or the person's own words. Reported rests on reputable press citing sources. Inferred rests on a pattern, and the entry says so.
A claim that could be verified only through a professional network's profile pages stays out of every piece.
Corrections
A source that has changed since an entry was written is a correction. Write to editor@ailately.com, and the fix appears on the corrections page with its date.
