AI Lately glossary: the words the site uses

Plain definitions of the terms AI Lately uses, from the Signal and Todai to Form 8-K Item 5.02, WARN notices and LCA filings.

These are the words AI Lately uses, defined once, in plain language. Each entry says what the term means on this site. Terms from the filings and records AI Lately reads, such as Form 8-K and WARN notice, sit beside the house's own words, such as Signal and Todai.

For how the terms fit together, read how AI Lately differs from other news sites. Lately.ai vs. AI Lately covers the company that shares part of the name.

Terms, A to Z

AI Right Now at ailately.com/rn is the fast lane on the site. It updates six times a day with checked and sourced stories about what people are searching for and posting about.

Argument is the block in every piece from Oct. 21, 2026 that states its claim. Outside evidence forms the "because" line. That block also names the strongest fact against the claim, and the body answers it.

By the numbers is the closing list of a piece's exact figures. Prose carries fewer numbers. At most 35 percent of sentences in the body print a number.

Cite once is the sourcing rule for paragraphs. One paragraph shows each source's marker once, at the first sentence that draws on that source.

Column means one of six sections on the site. Each section serves one reader with one promise: Talent, Technology, Money & Finance, Rules & Risk, Products, and Arts & Media.

Confirmed, reported, inferred are the three confidence labels. Company announcements, filings or the person's own words back a confirmed label. Reputable press citing sources backs a reported label. Patterns back an inferred label. The entry says so.

Drop refers to a dated page on a model or research system a lab shipped. AI Lately records what shipped, who built it, and what the release notes said.

Firehose is AI Lately's own list of upstream sources. Hugging Face Daily Papers, arXiv, SEC EDGAR, lab blogs, app charts and GitHub sit on that list. AI Lately checks it at the start of every AI Right Now run.

Form 8-K, Item 5.02. The SEC filing in which a public company reports the appointment or departure of a principal officer or director, due within four business days.

Kately. The chat-based social media agent Lately.ai introduced in 2026, by the company's description.

LCA and PERM. Two Department of Labor filings employers make when hiring on certain visas. Their public disclosure files list exact job titles and wages by employer, and AI Lately reads them to see who is hiring for what.

Mode is one of seven jobs a section can do: report, people, explain, data, argument, guide or aside. Writers declare the job first under Code Switch, adopted Oct. 10, 2026.

Move names one Signal entry. Every record lists a person, a destination, a title, an origin and a date. Types such as hire sit alongside a sector, a source and a confidence label.

Todai is the daily email. It is in early access. Each edition sends one story, one question with two sides, and three quick hits for a three-minute read.

Hosted photo means the site's own copy of every photo and hero, served directly from ailately.com. Pages keep working when the original source is slow.

Pro at ailately.com/pro is the site membership. Members get a weekly brief and a monthly live session with the editor. Full access to the Signal archive and the Upcoming calendar comes with the plan.

Repurposing. The marketing practice of cutting one long piece of content into many short posts. Lately.ai's product does this.

Sides is the block in every piece that argues a point. Who makes the case for, and who makes the case against? Both advocates speak in their own quoted words with a numbered source.

The Signal at ailately.com/signal is the board of every AI hire, exit, board seat, release and event on the record. Items carry a source, a date and a confidence label. Anyone can read the last two weeks. Pro members get the full archive, and a weekly brief ranks the biggest moves on the board.

Upcoming at ailately.com/upcoming is the dated calendar of launches, retirements, price floors, events and legal deadlines ahead. Seven days stay open. Pro members see the rest.

Voice Model. Lately.ai's term for the writing model its software builds from a brand's own social engagement data.

WARN notice. A state filing a large employer makes before a mass layoff or plant closing. AI Lately reads them as a sign of contraction.

What to do is the closing section on analysis, features and news. Readers get one or two steps they can take, built from the piece's own facts.
