Apple's Siri AI can now remember what you told it last week. The company shipped iPadOS 27.2 and iOS 27.2 on Oct. 26, 2026, the first update to give the year-old assistant a working memory1. Ask Siri about a restaurant it named days ago, and it searches that earlier exchange for the answer.
Siri now also reaches further into your device for each answer. Apple describes it reaching "photos attached in Messages, Calendar event attendees, your voicemails, and better results from Safari history and Reading List"1. The assistant pulls each item into its reply on its own, skipping the taps a manual search would take.
What Siri Actually Remembers Now
Until Oct. 26, Siri's memory lasted one conversation. Close the app, and the context disappeared3. Siri AI now keeps a running record it can search across sessions1.
Apple's own example states the change plainly. "Siri AI can recall your past conversations, so you can ask Siri about something it told you before, like the restaurants it recommended last week," the company says1. That line replaces a Siri that answered only the question sitting in front of it.
The update also adds a brake on how far that reach goes. "Excluded Apps lets you choose which apps Siri, Search, and suggestions can access, all from one setting," Apple says1. A reader worried about one app's contents can wall it off, app by app.
Siri AI Waits 42 Days for a Memory of Its Own Chats
Key dates in Siri AI's rollout, Sept. 14 to Oct. 26, 2026
Each dot marks one dated event; the magenta dot is Oct. 26, the day Siri AI's memory and five new languages shipped together.

The numbers behind this chart
| Date | Event |
|---|---|
| Sept. 14, 2026 | Siri AI launches. Ships in English only; memory of past chats arrives in the next update |
| Sept. 21, 2026 | Waitlist times reported. Engadget reports access taking a day or longer for some users |
| Oct. 26, 2026 | iPadOS 27.2 adds memory. Siri AI recalls past chats and adds five languages |
Two smaller changes round out the release. Apple's update lets a user select "just the part of a Siri response you need" instead of the whole reply1. Write with Siri now also works when a reader hovers a trackpad over text or writes by hand in Notes.
Who Gets It, and Who Is Still Waiting
The memory update reaches a narrow slice of devices. Apple requires an iPad mini with the A17 Pro chip, or any iPad with an M1 chip or newer1. On iPhone, the floor sits at the 15 Pro, the 15 Pro Max, or any iPhone 16 model or newer. Apple set that same list at launch3.
Language reach grew the most. Siri AI launched in English only on Sept. 14, and Apple promised French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish "next month"3. Those five arrived on schedule with the Oct. 26 update, so Siri AI now runs in six languages2. Four more, Chinese Traditional, Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese, wait on Apple to set a date.

Two regions stay closed altogether. "Siri AI is currently unavailable in the EU in iOS, iPadOS, and watchOS," Apple says, adding that it is "working constructively with the EU in an attempt to find a path forward"2. Mainland China carries the same gap, on the same open timeline.
Access inside supported countries still runs through a waitlist. Engadget reported in September that some users gained entry within a day of signing up, while others waited longer7. Apple has stayed quiet about when that line clears.

The Case for a Memory
Adam Engst, who publishes the Apple newsletter TidBITS, called the update overdue. Siri was catching up to a standard other assistants already set. "Memory is a core feature of chatbots like Claude and ChatGPT, and it should make Siri AI significantly more useful, because you're likely to have conversations about the same topics over time," Engst wrote4.
John Voorhees, MacStories' managing editor, reached a similar verdict after testing it himself. "With iOS and iPadOS 27.2, Siri can recall past conversations (English only), which is great, especially if you use Siri a lot," Voorhees wrote6.
Matthew Cassinelli@mattcassinelliApple Support has a page “About iOS 27 Updates” with all the updates for Siri AI since launch:
- Recall (from past conversations)
- More sources from Apple apps
- Excluded Apps
- Granular text selection
- More languages
- Suggestions in Messages pic.twitter.com/2IDCcGfOn6
Their case rests on repetition. Most Siri questions touch a short list of topics: the commute, a family calendar, one recurring order. A Siri that remembers last week's answer saves a user from repeating the question's setup every time.
The Case Against It
Tom Pritchard covers Apple for Tom's Guide. He made the opposite case the day Apple first built Siri's reach into personal context. "It is still rather creepy when a machine is able to locate and reveal personal information without me ever asking for it to do so," Pritchard wrote5.
His complaint lands harder now that the reach has grown. The four new sources are Messages photos, Calendar invitees, voicemails and Safari history. Each sits inside what Pritchard flagged, before Apple layered memory on top of it15. Apple's answer is the Excluded Apps setting, though a user has to find that setting and turn it on; every app starts included.

What to Do
Check your device against Apple's list before counting on the memory feature. An iPad older than the A17 Pro mini or the M1 generation keeps the old, memory-less Siri1.
Open Excluded Apps and remove any app whose contents a reader would rather Siri skip. That beats trusting the default to match personal comfort1. Readers in the EU or mainland China gain little so far; Apple has left both dates open2.
By the Numbers
- 42 days: the gap between Siri AI's memory-free Sept. 14, 2026 launch and the Oct. 26 update that gave it one13.
- Six languages run Siri AI now: English, French, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese and Spanish, after the Oct. 26 expansion2.
- Four languages, Chinese Traditional, Norwegian, Turkish and Vietnamese, still wait on a Siri AI date2.
- Two regions, the EU and mainland China, stay closed to Siri AI altogether2.
- One new setting, Excluded Apps, controls what Siri, Search and suggestions can reach1.
- iPhone's floor: the 15 Pro, the 15 Pro Max, or an iPhone 16 model or newer3.
- iPad's floor: a mini with the A17 Pro chip, or any model with M1 or newer1.
What to Watch
Apple has left the date open for the EU, mainland China, and the four languages still waiting their turn. The update that finally adds one of those three will mark the point Apple treats Siri AI's rollout as finished, rather than staged. Watch too for the waitlist itself: its quiet disappearance would be the clearest sign Apple's cloud capacity has caught up with demand.
